That is very disheartening that the police and media basically acted like it was a non-issue that this lady was murdered. Is it that easy for people to strip the humanity from a person just because they are different? Does a cisgendered person’s life mean more than a transgendered person’s life? Is there such negative stigma towards transgendered individuals that people think we are all freaks and prostitutes and deserve what’s coming to us? I myself, am a successful engineer. I have worked hard in my life and have gone through many difficult experiences. How on earth does the fact that I happened to have unfortunately been born with a gender incongurnce make my life any less valuable? How does it make this lady who was shot to death in her car in Oakland, California any less valuable? I suppose I will never understand such willingness to collaboratively dismiss the value of human life.
